Mission

The mission of the Black Writers’ Guild of Maryland, Inc. is to provide avenues of support and networking to Maryland’s African-American writers.   

Strategic Goals

Goal 1: To build the infrastructure of the Black Writers' Guild

            Strategies:

                        Develop an annual itemized budget

                        Increase annual revenue

                        Conduct an annual board retreat

                        Hire an intern to provide administrative support to the Guild

                        Develop governing policies                      

Goal 2: To promote awareness of the Black Writers’ Guild and its programs

            Strategies:

                        Advertise programs using local mediums

                        Maintain Website with up-to-date information

Goal 3: To improve the quality of the programs provided by the Guild 

Strategies: 

Incorporate needs of published and non-published authors

Invite workshop leaders of recognized expertise

Expand the range of workshop topics

Major Programs and Activities

Ø      Workshops that educate writers on the all aspects of writing and publishing.  

Ø      Showcases to provide forums for writers to find their voice through public presentations of their work.

Ø      Mentoring to youth and disenfranchised adults who have an interest in finding their literary voice.
